Specialty Travel Guide Luxembourg

Luxembourg may be one of the smallest countries in Europe, but you may be pleasantly surprised by its appeal. This trilingual country combines many customs from throughout Europe. Luxembourg city has an array of interesting sites and has both an upper and lower city. The upper city has Bock Casemates and its network of passages and tunnels that were designed by Austria to make Luxembourg into an extreme fortress. Catch a glimpse of the Castle Bridge that can be seen next to the Bock Casemates The city is also home to a quaint square lined with cafes, place d'Armes. Stop on the square for lunch at La Boucherie, a fun little restaurant with a cow theme and decor. If your lucky you may even catch a music concert on the square while you eat. Behind the bandstand is a memorial in honor of Michel Lentz, the composer of the Lusembourg national hymn. The New Municipal Theatre, the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge and Casino Luxembourg are also in among the sites in th upper city. The lower city, draws us to the Modern European Centre where the footpaths will lead to grand panoramic views of Luxembourg.

From Luxembourg City we make our way northeast to Vianden. This is a very popular holiday destination. Once surrounded by a fortified wall with multiple towers and gateways. The medieval castle is the largest in Luxembourg and has been renovated to its full glory. To get the most breathtaking view in Vianden, take the chair lift to the summit of the Belvedere and look out over the Our Valley. Last, but certainly not least is the widely know Vianden Nut Market (Veiner Nessmoort). On the first Sunday in October, it is all about the nut festival. Just about every cake, bread, pastry, liqueur, and product containing nuts can be found here. This could be a very delicious way to discover Luxembourg!
