India
The country of India is the seventh largest country in the world by land, but the second largest by population. India is a very diverse country, with a wide range of geography, climate, and culture throughout. India prides itself in being the largest democracy on the planet.
One thing that any intrepid traveler won't want to miss is the Thar Desert. Camel safaris are available to any traveler, and can range from a few hours to several days. Safari-goers will enjoy the tranquility of the desert, and its stunning starlit skies. It is advised to go between October and February for best weather.
Another interesting sight is the city of Fatehpur Sikri, with the Queens' Palaces. In the 16th Century, Emperor Akbar decided to move the capital city of India. He then built a palace for each of his 3 wives, each radically different. The Hindu Queen, his first wife, was given the largest and most opulent palace. It is built around a large courtyard with an intricate entrance. The other two palaces are notably smaller and less intricate. Regardless, the Queens' Palaces are a must see for any traveler.
While in India, a visit to Mahaballipuram to see the Temples on the Hill is worth your while. The trip is worth going to see the depiction of Arjuna's Penance on a rock wall along the road. Arjuna's Penance is a masterpiece of Middle Age Indian art, and is the world's biggest bas-relief sculpted on the rock. The entire carving is extremely detailed and is a sight to see for anyone. Other notable sights in India include the Taj Mahal and Gandi's Tomb.
Japan
Japan is a country full of things to do. The people are polite and welcoming to visitors from all over the world. The country is full of good art and cuisine that will appeal to any traveler.
One must see in Japan is Ueno Park in Tokyo. Cherry blossoms line the paths, while locals and foreigners admire them. Ueno Park is Japan's largest park, with much to do. Many art galleries and museums are in the park, including the Tokyo National Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Modern Art Gallery. The Ueno Zoo is a favorite for families with children. The park is open all year, but the best, and most crowded, time to go is when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
The Nijo Castle is reason enough to make the trip to Kyoto. Once inside the castle, you will be provided with slippers in exchange for shoes, and then head for the Ninomaru Palace. Here you can see extravagant screen paintings, and learn about the castle. The famous nightingale floors squeak when walked upon. They were designed in such a way that they would alert the occupants of intruders. There are several other buildings at the castle as well as a garden. Like Ueno Park, the gardens are best viewed when the cherry blossoms are in bloom (the fall.)
In Osaka, the Shitennoji Temple and Osaka Castle are sights that travelers from around the world come to admire. The temple is the oldest temple in Japan, built over 1,400 years ago, and is famous for its symmetrical design. The castle provides a beautiful view from the top, and is worth a trip.
